It was a Troy Lee Designs dominated event with a record six of the fifteen athletes invited representing TLD including Brandon Semenuk, Cam Zink, Jaxson Riddle, Tom VanSteenbergen, Kyle Strait and Brendan Fairclough who was unable to compete due to injury. In the end, TLD bike crew brought home the win and four out of the five trophies awarded. The historic win marks Semenuk's second title in a row (first ever back-to-back champion) and the fourth of his career overall which puts him alone at the top with the most Rampage wins by a single athlete. When the dust settled, Brandon Semenuk stood at the top of the podium as the winner of Red Bull Rampage 2021 and four out of the five awards handed out were in TLD athlete's hands. Who wouldn't be stoked with a third place finish at only their third Rampage? Congrats Reed! Photo by Kenny Wehn. After taking a two year leave of absence, Red Bull Rampage returned to the Utah desert for the most spectacular show in freeride MTB that showcases each team's digging creativeness and each athlete's individual style, toughness and skill. What a feeling it must be rolling into the finish corral after stomping your second run. Reed was looking smooth and confident in practice. Sitting fully perpendicular to where you want to land off an enormous dropdown is a feeling few of will ever experience. Reed had already thrown down a monster ride when he mixed fun with total class by throwing in a move many of us remember from the late Jordie Lunn. ![]() Reed stepped up on this step down and delivered his best Rampage performance yet. ![]() Reed locks in on his landing on this one. The old saying "look where you want to go" is especially true sometimes. Reed Boggs soars out this no hander during practice. And work even harder so I can achieve a win at Rampage one day. As long as I have the chance to build a fun line with my team, I’m happy. SNT: Do you prefer new venues or established ones? I try and focus on dialing in my tricks on the small bike, then slowly bring them over the the big bike so I’m confident in the move/trick because I’ve already perfected them on a smaller travel bike. At the end of the day, you need every bike skill there is to ride Rampage. On different bikes, as well as different terrain. RB: I worked on various video projects to stay busy. SNT: Without competition in 2020, how did you stay busy and on top of your game to come back from an off-year riding bigger and better than ever? I kept telling myself I was going to be in the main event and stayed positive and it worked out. Training the mind, getting my body in shape, and riding my bike. How did you work through that to put together an incredible run and land yourself on the podium? ![]() SNT: Not being listed on the automatic qualification list would be a major setback for some riders. It’s a wild feeling but when you get to the bottom, it’s all worth it! It’s a lot of fun but at the same time so nerve racking. We work so hard all year for that moment and it all comes down to a 1-2 minute run. RB: There’s so many emotions that come to mind but for me there’s mostly confidence and determination. Stan's NoTubes: What's it like sitting at the top of the drop in looking down on what is arguably the gnarliest terrain that a bicycle has ever been ridden on? Click here to watch Reed's run that scored an 87 and landed him on the podium. We caught up with Reed for a quick Q&A before he heads to Hawaii for some well deserved down time. After putting together a strong ride that nevertheless found him outside the top 10 in 2019, Reed's off year of hard work paid off, landing him a third place finish this year, a podium spot at one of the most prestigious events in mountain biking. Not one to waste an opportunity, Reed not only proved that he belonged, but that he was one the best competitors there that day. A few days before the event, Reed got the nod from the promoters that he'd be competing in the big show. A reduced field size at this year's Red Bull Rampage left Reeds Boggs, and a lot of other talented riders, off of the automatic qualification list. ![]()
